Thankful Thursday

Psm. 130:3 If you, God, kept records on wrongdoings,
who would stand a chance?

1. If you asked me Monday if I would be a TT post today, I would say “no way” my heart is shattered too much for me to even think of thankful things. But God is good.

2. I am thankful God never lets me go, even when I am irrational, angry, disillusioned, and ready to walk away from any Christian service that might involve me stepping out in a leap of faith. The Lord knew I was not serious, even when I thought I was.

3. I am thankful for bible verses who gently remind me “we all fall short” the verse above has been my verse for the week. For I know I would not stand a chance, any good you see in me is because of HIM, so why should I be shocked when another person shows their human sinful side.

4. Friends (blog friends) who let you show your ugly, angry, side and still talk to you and encourage you are worth their weight in gold. I pray one day the Lord allows me to be there for them.

5. I am thankful to have parents that, still today while I am a grown adult, I can call up and just sob like a little child and know I find comfort and prayer in their midst. I am thankful for a husband who is a comfort.

6. And I am thankful for a christian church body who comes together.

7. I am thankful my middle son graduated from 5th grade and as soon as the ceremony started I began crying, and manly man said “we are only saying the Pledge of Allegiance and you are already crying!” (hehehe, what can I say, God blessed me with Mom tears).

He got a PE award, a Academic Presidential Award, Honor Roll for the Entire School year award, and then his graduation certificate. Can you see my puffed up chest. I am proud. But Lord help me I now have two middle schoolers.

God is good, and he is good ALL THE TIME. What a week. Thank you Iris for hosting this each week, many times it is like healing ointment on an open wound.

Head on over to Sting My Heart for more Thankful Thursdays, so what are you thankful for today?

  5. Seems to be alot of sludge coming out of the hearts this week among our bloggy friends. But thanks be to God who gives us the victory in Christ! He is so faithful! I love the tears over the Pledge of Allegiance! Blessings on your weekend.

  6. I have a feeling our boys would be great friends…mine just finished 5th grade too….

  7. I just have to say I am thankful that the school my children attend doesn’t start middle school until 7th grade.

My son is finishing 5th grade this year also. I am pretty sure I wouldn’t be ready for middle school yet! But it is close… so very close! *yikes*

On a more serious note, just to let you know I am continuing to pray for you and the situation you face!! Continue to push hard into HIM for the strength and peace you need!

  8. Your #1 is the reason Thankful Thursdays are so special. What an encouragement for you next time you face a trial to remember things are for a season and God never forsakes us.

  9. All wonderful things to be thankful for…. Especially the friends and family part…. And you are right – God loves us through everything, no matter what. Even when we want to give up on life. Thanks for sharing!

  10. I am sorry you have had such a rough time. I am glad you have the prayers lifting you up. Have a blessed and better week this week!

  11. I love your list Laurel. Sometimes we just need to do a thankful list even when we don’t feel like we have anything to be thankful for. God can really show us the precious little things.

I don’t know your story but we too here are dealing with disillusionment and profound sadness with something that happened in Christian leadership so I just want to keep looking to the Lord. And sending Hugs.

  12. Dear Laurel,
I am so sorry your week has been hard. I am praying for you. I am in tears reading your post for you. Bless you for keeping focused on your blessings. I am here for you if you need a prayer partner, friend, to vent, or laugh..LOL

  13. I’m catching up here and I’m so sorry you are going through a challenging time right now. Praying that God enfolds you in His love, peace and grace…
And congratulations to your son for all those awards! Wonderful!
    Blessings!

  14. I think we are leading parallel lives. This has been a difficult week for me, too. How redemptive it is to stop and count our blessings…makes all the ugliness pale in comparison. I will remember you in my prayers Sweet One. Have a great day!!!

  15. You allow God to teach you every step of the way, instead of turning your back on His plan for your life. I’m encouraged that you don’t let the stones trip-up your walk of faith.

  16. You allow God to teach you every step of the way, instead of turning your back on His plan for your life. I’m encouraged that you don’t let the stones trip-up your walk of faith.

  17. I am praying for you sweet sister in Christ.

I am clinging to Phil 4:7 myself this week.

Phil 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

May you find peace and rest also.

  18. You know what, Laurel…

    you just bless me.

Thank you for being “real”…and such an encouragement…

Sorry you’re hurting, but thank you for pressing through and sharing today…

  19. I am so thankful that you, despite your struggles this week, posted a thankful post. God IS good – all the time. And as you mentioned, we all fall short of His glory, that is why we need a Savior :) …His Word has been so much comfort for me in time of struggles, I am glad that it calmed your heart this week.
Very cool about your middle-son. I am sure that God is proud that you have raise him the way you did.

Blessings to your day and always.

  20. So glad you shared through your heartache, anger, disappointment and other “stuff”. I am there too this week and am thankful as well for friends (blog too) that still love you when you let it all hang out!

  21. I love reading TT…when I think life is at it’s lowest, someone always has some good things to be thankful for, and they remind me that my life isn’t so bad…

I will be praying for you, whatever your difficulty is.

    *hugs*

  22. This is a great list Laurel. I,too, am thankful that I can be just the way I feel and God doesn’t get upset with me. He is a wonderful, loving, understanding Father.
Congratulations to your son. He did a super job.
Praying you will feel better soon.

  23. God is good!!
He is faithful and dependable and never gives up on us
He is forgiving and calls us to be too. (This doesn’t mean we always forget but if we can learn to forgive it is better especially for us)
Friends are special that’s why I havent given up on you :)
Bless your family and your hubby for being there for you

WTG to your son and the adwards he won

  24. I am thankful for every word you typed….it spoke volumes to my heart/soul and I saw myself there….and again at the “graduation” (I tear up at the Pledge of Alligance)…my daughters are grown, married and have their own little ones….but I do well remember the 5th grade graduation of both….seems like yesterday….boy do I now feel old!

It is windy here in NW Florida tonight…pray for rain.

I love reading your blog….am praying for you and the situation…God knows —sees all….Is ALL!

I added you to my blog…hope you don’t mind.

  25. (((hugs))) thank you for sharing so honestly. And, in the midst of the trials of the week, praising God. And, I can see me, crying like that too. :) Thank you also for your sweet comments on Every Day is a Blessing. You are a blessing to me!
Lord, keep holding Laurel close to You. Breathe new life into her soul. And, delight her heart in You continually. Thank You for Your amazing, eternal love and Your faithful presence all the time. Lord, You are more than amazing. In Jesus’ name, Amen

  26. I’m thankful you’re obviously recovering enough that you could write this list. That’s a good sign.

  27. Thanks for sharing, for your honesty, and for reminding all of us that we can live outside of our circumstances.

  28. I’m so late on my blog reading but please know that I have been lifting you up in prayer, dear friend.

You should be proud of your son–what a wonderful student! WTG!

    Keeping you in prayer~
